Data Warehouse- A utility for data management

The main asset of any company is data and it is secured for the future access. Data are collected from various online transaction process (OLTP) systems and stored at one place that is known as Data warehousing. The OLTP system data are structured and stored in online analytical processing (OLAP) system for the purpose of analysis. In the terms of retail, online transaction process system data are point of sale (POS) data and OLAP system is data warehouse. Retail data warehouse not only contains POS data, but also contains detailed information of the company. For effective analysis, the data warehouse needs to be regularly updated.

There are many benefits of data warehousing like-
It maintains data history, even if the source transaction system does not.
It integrates the data from various source systems that enable a central view across the enterprise.
It improves data by providing consistent codes and descriptions, flagging or even fixing bad data.

It presents the organization’s information consistently.
It provides a single common data model for all data of interest regardless of the data’s source.
It restructures the data so that it makes sense to the business users.
It adds value to operational business applications, particularly customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

A data warehouse is a solution of hardware as well as networking and database software. The data warehouse consists of software and hardware includes data storage, database management, servers and operating systems for the intention of data warehousing. Business intelligence is the utilization of various techniques to examine and interpret information and data for the purpose of improving efficiency. A data warehouse is a pot that holds all the information. By using the dashboard, reports, analysis and more information can be collected and used. Data warehousing works to provide the exact information to the end user.

Basically, data warehousing is an asset for an organization because it maintains efficiency, productivity, profitability and competitive graph. An organization collects various data from different sources like inventory manageable, call center, sales leads, etc. These data are then passed through the data life cycle management policy. This policy determines the plan and methods of data warehouse made by the organization. To create front-end analytics is the main aim of data warehousing that supports the operation staff and other employees of the organization. The elements of data warehousing are Pre-data warehouse, data cleansing, data Repository, front-End Analysis, data mining and data Visualization Tools.
